International Rules - Game 5

Match ReportsForget the Frogs and the Kiwis, the weekend’s Battle Royale belonged to the Warriors and the Orang Eire as they wrestled for the Finnegans Cup in the Desa Park City-hosted decider. Played out in sunny finals-like weather, the first quarter was an initial midfield slugfest that saw both sides trade overs like heavyweights going into a final round. Only J.Flanagan’s close range goal from an exciting run of play made the difference, as the Warriors took advantage of their superior handballing style. Still, the Irish were as dogged in defence as ever, forcing several chances to go wide of the verticals late in the quarter.

First Quarter 1.2.3.15 to 0.3.0.9

The second quarter was more lucid as the midfields went for broke, but it was the Warriors’ forward line that had more bite. Flanagan managed another over from running play and then hooked up with S.McDonough for a one-two handball which spilled to the ground. Flanagan beat the keeper who rushed out to collect and lobbed the ball over his head and into the net for a sublime goal. The Irish responded almost immediately from the centre bounce with an over but the Warriors continued to press on in the forward line and produced another goal within minutes. Once again the Irish response only yielded an over. The Warriors were proving tighter than a Jewish banker in defence, with Beasley, Holborne and Wardrop mopping up the turnovers while Coombes and ‘Snakes’ Kaminsky combined every time the ball spilled from a contest. The Warriors could’ve piled on more misery if not for a missed chance from Wardrop and then Kaminsky spraying wide. The latter made up for it minutes later with an over and back in defence a crucial block by J.Drummond frustrated the Irish just as the ump called for the main break.

Second Quarter 3.4.6.36 to 0.6.0.18

AFL Training - Week 41 (and final training) - Training at Cobra

NewsA message from the Prez ...

Warriors,

Calendar updates are last weekend was postponed and the navy cancelled. So last training session for 2011. make it down for a kick.

15th October – 3pm - Regular Training at Cobra Club. Cobra Training Ground PJ
We need to ramp up the fitness as this is our grand final boys. we have come from a miraculous 2-0 down with the chance to take the series 3-2. I can't begin to talk about how the warriors felt as we had lost the last two last year to lose the series. Then losing two more this year it was a four game losing streak there was no turning it around. So lets grab the opportunity as people will only remember whats spelt out on the finegans cup as that years victors. So get to training and do some fitness in the week and eat greens cooked outside of butter and garlic..

16th October - 4pm - Sunday the Wallabies take on the All Blacks. Out Of Africa Bar
Shall be huge. Rugby doesn't get much better than the weekend. A huge game on sunday so we have nominated the Pub "Out of Africa" in PJ for the event. great atmosphere and a olympic pool for the kids. There will be a shooting range with live kiwis, cattle dog herding of sheep from the nz homestead to the paddock, and a live replay of manly beating auckland in the NRL. come down for a beer.

22nd October – 5th International Rules Game – Warriors Vs Gaelic. Then the International fules Vs irish next weekend. Desapark Sports Centre. As mentioned above it will be huge.

12/19th (TBA) November – Warriors Presentation Night. We have a huge day planned for the family here. Looking forward to getting the men and wags together and celebrate the year that has been. awards for best and fairest, rookie of the year, tallest warrior, shortest warrior will only be revealed on the night.

life be in it.

International Rules - Game 4

Match ReportsThe two teams squared off for another grudge match as tropical rain belted down on Alice Smith Oval unrelentingly. In the slick conditions it was the Irish who opened their account with a goal. A point and an over later and it looked like the men from the land of Guinness were hell-bent on serving a pint of cold revenge. However, new recruit J.Edwards got himself on the receiving end of two great handballs and slotted a low goal from the left pocket. S.McDonough made himself busy in the forward line, exerting more pressure than a housewife with a steam iron. A run of play saw him kick a valuable over while J.Holborne's effort hit the bar, yielding a point to level it. The midfielders were sharp, with J.Wardrop providing good running, while harassment from McDonough, J.Flanagan and the forwards almost generated another point short of the whistle. Great determination from the Warriors too but the Irish were definitely not going to be rolled over like the last time.

First Quarter 1.1.1.10 to 1.1.1.10

AFL Training - Week 35 - 3pm Cobra Club

NewsSaturday Training session at cobra club at 3pm.Cobra Rugby Club - Google Maps Link. It's likley you haven't had any fitness training for the past 3 weeks so come down for a kick of the ball before we take on the irish next week. Also Friday night footy at havana, Collingwood v Geelong, 1 Vs 2 on the ladder, kick off at 5:30. Fricky will do a weekly email on the final series with havana as the venue.

10th of september International Rules. It has to be said the big difference between afl and the irish will be fitness, we are equally matched on the field but we need to push through the barrier and play 4Q of football, only hard work will get you there. In addition it has to be commented that the team we played last time had a good deal of key guys missing and a good deal of key guys drinking at 3am. We need guys hungry for a win to make up for the results in the asian champs and we need guys hungry to push through the four quarters of play. hope to see you there in preparation to earn that win. Fire Up Warriors.

AFL Final Series @ Havana
With the final series kicking off on September 9th we are looking to support our sponsor havana as best we can. To be honest we have slackened right off the last few months but as a team of inebriates we can support a habit that supports our friendships at havana.

Milly needs help with the GF.The AFL GF Day is fast approaching and with everything, many hands make light work. We are holding a meeting on Wednesday night at Havana from 7.30 to get all the bits and pieces sorted. It would be great if we get 15 people down there on Wednesday to thrash out some new ideas.

New Sponsor
Auzcorp's Graham Moss, an AFL legend has signed up with the Warriors and their support is much needed so take a look at their website (linked left) and if you can use their services please put them to the top of your list to contact.
